We boomers like to think that the performers of our generation are the greatest performers of the ages. Listen to what our kids have playing in their ears, you’ll know we’re right! Well, those performers who grew from the boomer generation are getting older themselves, and some are revising their hits with new lyrics to reflect that fact. Here’s a list:

Bobby Darin ~
Splish, Splash, I Was Havin’ a Flash

Herman’s Hermits ~
Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Walker

Ringo Starr ~
I Get By With a Little Help From Depends

The Bee Gees ~
How Can You Mend a Broken Hip

Roberta Flack ~
The First Time Ever I Forgot Your Face

Johnny Nash ~
I Can’t See Clearly Now

The Commodores

The Commodores

Paul Simon ~
Fifty Ways to Lose Your Liver

The Commodores ~
Once, Twice, Three Times to the Bathroom

Marvin Gaye ~
Heard It Through the Grape Nuts

Procol Harem ~
A Whiter Shade of Hair

Leo Sayer ~
You Make Me Feel Like Napping

The Temptations ~
Papa’s Got a Kidney Stone

Abba ~
Denture Queen

Tony Orlando ~
Knock 3 Times On The Ceiling If You Hear Me Fall

Helen Reddy ~
I Am Woman, Hear Me Snore

Leslie Gore ~
It’s My Procedure, and I’ll Cry If I Want To

And last but not least, Willie Nelson ~
On the Commode Again

The one thing I don’t see on any boomer sites are articles about boomers who are creating NEW music. My husband is almost 62, has been self-releasing his own CDs since the 90s, and gets rave reviews. But it’s tough to compete in a 20-something market. It’s even hard to find paying gig these days. Maybe you could reach out to some of these artists (I’m sure my hubby isn’t the only one out there) and introduce them to your audience? I think it would be a win-win situation. :)

A late reply to the post but I like your idea Naomi. Many kids I know hum along to tunes they hear in TV ads but shriek when they find out it is an old tune from the 60' or 70's. Or like the song some heard on Glee and were singing at the school I work at. I recognized the tune to be "Total Eclipse Of The Heart", the Jim Steinman composition released by Bonnie Tyler in the 80's.

A number of modern day 20 to 30 something artists have done covers of Beatles songs for example. They have just slipped my mind for the moment but will return when I find them and list them.

    Thanks,

    Ross.
