Mike with WoodieFeeling like the holiday season brings an end to another year that makes you another year older? For Michael Petrie, whose writing has appeared from time to time on BoomerCafé, not a problem. He just shared this letter with us, which we decided to share with you, because this guy is just who we exist for: an active baby boomer who really knows how to do the holidays!

Just thought I’d share this with you. For my Boomer buddies and me, this past Wednesday was Big Wednesday — like the old surf movie of the same name. Goes to show that we Baby Boomers can still keep up with the kids … no matter how old and gray we may be getting, ha ha! What a day!

Mike_surfingDecember, 2006: After weeks — make that months — of blue skies and temps in the 70s and 80s, winter officially arrived this month in Southern California as the skies grew cloudy, the wind began whistling through the palm trees, and liquid sunshine began falling from the heavens. My goodness, I not only had to raise the top on my 2-seater convertible but had to actually don a sweater to keep warm. Brrrr. The evening news lead story was ARCTIC STORM GRIPS THE SOUTHLAND followed by stories of fender-benders on our roadways as local folks displayed their inability to properly maneuver automobiles during inclement conditions.
