I am one of the 41% of boomer-generation parents that provide at least some financial support for their adult children. I am also of them who say their kids are fully independent. My daughter always needs help -my son never asks for a penny -and my grandson ( daughter 's 23 year old son ) can't seem to keep a job . I also help care for a 91 year old father and a 85 year old mom. I really don't mind caring for parents but when does responsibly to provide for your children end. I am 64 -and am trying to built up a retirement fund- how do you say NO MORE !!!

I am happy that you have a positive scene with your children. However, I do not believe it is necessarily the norm. My husband worked his entire life to build business after business that would provide for his first wife(deceased) and children. They received the best of everything, Columbia university education, private school for their own children, money to finance his son's business schemes that never seemed to work into any sort of income, the list goes on. Now, after putting his son in charge of the company that he built to $$$$ worth, his son refuses to provide for his father's increasing and costly care related expenses in his golden years. If that is "family" I don't want it.
