Baby Boomers Don’t Get Adequate Sleep, Says Study
As a caveat, up-front, this news comes from the people who want to sell you a new mattress.
That image of Baby Boomers lying awake at night worrying about pocketbook and family issues is right on the mark, according to a recent survey of boomers conducted by the Better Sleep Council.
The survey found that almost three-fourths of U.S. Baby Boomers (who range in age from 44 to 62) are not getting a full eight hours of sleep each night. And they blame those sleepless nights on financial and family woes.
So pronounced is their sleeplessness that the boomers would take some surprising steps to end it. In fact, 27% responding to the BSC survey said they would be willing to sacrifice chocolate forever in exchange for great sleep every night for the rest of their life. And 22% said they would silence their cell phones forever for great sleep every night.
Some would go even further: Four percent of the female boomers said they would be willing to swap sex for a lifetime of better sleep.
