Looking Younger … At a Cost

September 29, 2008 | Cafe | Comments 1

There’s something about the quirky culture of the baby boomer generation — We always believed we would look younger, and, some of us have. Whoever coined the now-overused phrase “Sixty is the New Forty” certainly must have been a baby boomer who grew up defying anything that reeked of old.

We promised ourselves that we would never look as old as our parents or act like them. We adopted the unspoken rule of ‘tie dye forever’ and ‘down with the establishment.’ Well, guess what? Time has caught up with many of us.

Little did we know that the establishment would snare us, rope us into believing that we need to cut our bodies and invade our systems with toxins and poisons – all in the name of beauty?

This is a terrific article about the pressures some of us feel about staying young. Impossible, of course. See Nip/Tuck in http://www.fiftyisthenew.com on this very subject. Many of us are made to feel like we’re doing it wrong if we reject the knife and “let ourselves go.” I’m having a panic attack right now just thinking about letting my hair go gray.

Thanks Cynthia, for leading the way toward a better, more sane approach to the inevitable.
