Sgt. Pepper at 40

Beatles_sgt_pepperBrace yourself … June 1, 2007 is the 40th anniversary of the release of The Beatles “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band!” 40 years ago!!!

It was the 1967 summer of love, marked by such events at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival.

Where were you? What were you doing? Were you in love that summer? Do you still wish for flowers in your hair? Do you still have the LP of the Beatles album somewhere or do you listen to it on your iPod?

I remember the summer of 1967 well as a teenager and had just received my first guitar for my birthday that spring after years of playing saxophone and was so inspired by the British Invasion and of course most of all the Beatles. For the next several years I was obsessed with guitars, girls and getting good grades at schools while going from optimism to despair about VietNam by the end of the decade. With Sgt. Pepper however, I was wondering, where are the fab four taking us now after where we’d been with them as our idols for the previous few years.

40 years later… still obsessed with the Beatles, music that lasts a lifetime.

Paul Mc Cartney (Sir Paul Mc Cartney, please) played three years ago just under the Colosseum, and something like 500.000 persons assisted to his concert at night. The event was so beautiful but the Major of Rome didn’t want no more concerts under the Colosseum, because he was afraid that this wonder of the world felt down due to the excessive sound (52.000 watts).I am a driver guide in Rome and I understand this very well, because we should preserve the Rome monuments and its 2800 years of history. They should try to give concerts in open spaces or huge areas containing until one million people, and this is possible only in areas close to Rome but notin its center. What a pity,Paul !!!
